Don't You Dare Privacy Policy
Last updated September 27, 2026 · replaces the version of March 20, 2025
Don't You Dare gives you one dare a day. There's no account and no sign-in: your dares, streak and ratings stay on your phone. The only thing that leaves your phone is anonymous usage analytics, and you can turn that off in the app. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps.
1. Who we are
Don't You Dare is made by Mind Games Lab LLC, a company based in Washington State, USA ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Don't You Dare app for iPhone, iPad and Android.
2. What stays on your phone
Everything you do in the app is saved only on your device. We can't see it and it isn't backed up to our servers:
- the dares you completed, swapped or skipped, and your streak and freezes;
- your fear ratings (before and after a dare) and battery ratings on Recharge days;
- your courage level, categories, sprints and reminder time.
Daily reminders are scheduled on your phone. We don't use a push-notification server and we don't receive a notification token.
When you share a result or dare a friend, your phone's share sheet sends it to the app you pick. We don't see what you share or who you send it to.
3. What we collect: usage analytics
We use Google Firebase Analytics to learn which features people use, so we can make the app better. It collects:
- App events, for example "a dare was completed", "a fear rating was given", "a dare was swapped" (with the reason picked, like "at work"), "a sprint started", "the reminder time changed". Events include which dare it was and its level and category.
- Settings summaries: your current streak, courage level, chosen categories, whether a sprint is running, and whether notifications are allowed.
- A random ID created by the app on your phone, plus Firebase's own app-instance ID. Neither is linked to your name, email or phone number.
- Standard technical information that Firebase collects automatically: device model, operating system and version, app version, language, and your approximate country or region (worked out from your IP address; Google doesn't keep the IP address in Analytics).
We don't use the advertising identifier (IDFA or Android advertising ID), and analytics data isn't used for ads or shared with advertisers.
4. What we don't collect
- Your name, email address, phone number or any account details. There is no account.
- Precise location (GPS).
- Your contacts, photo library, camera or microphone.
- Health data (Apple Health or Google Fit).
- Payment information. Don't You Dare is free.
5. How we use it
- To see which dares and features work, and which don't, and to fix problems.
- To understand overall use, like how many people finish a sprint.
- To comply with the law.
We don't sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
6. Services that handle your data
These companies process data on our behalf, only to run Don't You Dare:
| Service | What for |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase Analytics (Google LLC) | Usage analytics, as described in section 3 |
| Expo (650 Industries, Inc.) | Delivering app updates. When the app checks for an update, Expo sees your IP address, platform and app version. |
| Apple and Google | The App Store and Google Play, under their own privacy policies |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a sale or merger of our business. In that last case, this policy would keep applying.
7. How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Everything on your phone | Until you delete the app |
| Analytics events | 2 months |
| Update checks (Expo) | Expo's standard server logs |
8. Your choices and rights
- Turn analytics off: Dare mode → "Share anonymous usage data". When it's off, the app sends no analytics.
- Delete your data: delete the app. That removes everything stored on your phone. Analytics data isn't tied to you, so we usually can't find it, but you can email us and we'll help where we can.
- Notifications: turn the daily reminder off in Dare mode, or in your phone's settings.
- Anything else, like asking what we hold: email us (section 13). We answer within 30 days.
9. Children
Don't You Dare is for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; the app has no account and asks for no personal details. If you're a parent and have a concern, email us.
10. Security and where data is stored
Your app data stays on your phone and is protected by your phone's own security. Analytics data is sent encrypted to Google and stored on Google's servers, which may be in the United States or other countries. We are based in the United States, so data is processed there. For people in the EU, UK and Switzerland, transfers rely on our providers' Standard Contractual Clauses.
11. Region-specific rights
EU, UK and Switzerland
We process analytics data based on our legitimate interest in improving the app. You can turn analytics off in the app at any time (section 8). You can also ask for access, correction or deletion, object to processing, and complain to your local data-protection authority.
US states
Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington and other states with privacy laws have rights to know, correct and delete their personal information. We don't sell or "share" personal information for advertising. To appeal a decision about your request, reply to our answer with the subject "Privacy appeal".
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. For important changes we'll tell you in the app before they take effect.
